About

I run Pingie, an indie studio that has been building connections between devices, platforms, and people since 2008.

Pingie started out turning RSS feeds into text-message alerts. These days it's a family of small apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch: small tools that solve big problems across all your devices, made for the people who use them, not just the people who build them.

Why I build

I build tools that solve problems I run into in my own life, and I'd rather share them than keep them locked away. Software is most powerful when it's open, when others can adapt it, learn from it, or just use it to make their day a little easier.

I don't need to make money from my projects, and I don't expect anything in return. If something I've built helps you and you want to say thanks, donate to a local charity or community cause instead. You can read more in My Personal Software Development Philosophy.

What I'm working on

  • Notify! — Lightweight website monitoring with push notifications. Runs entirely on-device, with no accounts or subscriptions.
  • HomeBridger — Full-featured Homebridge management from your iPhone.
  • Green Bubbles — Google Messages on your Mac and iPhone.
  • HomeSnap — A daily snapshot of your HomeKit home that shows exactly what changed.

There's more where those came from: NUTty, Snowy, Kloudy, Tag!, WatchSpeed, Rover, Inbox, and Drive Uploader. The whole family is on pingie.com.

Open source

I also make open-source Homebridge and Home Assistant plugins for ScentAir diffusers, Kidde and Ring smoke detectors, Swidget fans, Whisker Labs Ting, and Leviton Decora Smart switches. They're all on GitHub.

This blog

Long(er) posts and ramblings: thoughts on technology, design, and building software, plus the occasional dev log or 3D-printing project.
